Interview with Desmond Clark

Winning On The Field and Off The Field

This was the first podcast I recorded in 2019. It took two years long for me to finally push the button. If you are a business owner or someone with a dream deferred, I encourage you to step out of your comfort zone and JUST 👏 GET 👏 STARTED.

Do the thing that scares you most. Our growth is unlimited when we are willing to step out of our comfort zones and challenge our perceived abilities.

Today’s guest has built a strong reputation as a former NFL player with the Denver Broncos, the Miami Dolphins. And of course the Chicago Bears. He has taken his leadership skills from on the field to off the field, as he pursues a leadership role as a key note and motivational speaker.

I introduce you to Desmond Clark.

Desmond will walk us through his journey from high school to the NFL to becoming an entrepreneur. He says it was never a goal to play in the NFL, but a dream.

He describes a dreams as a bit more aspirational, but a goal requires work, a commitment and a desire to become a better version of yourself everyday.

Here are some tips for goal setting:

==> Know exactly what it is that you want. Make it clear, specific and written.

==> Set a deadline for achieving your goal, break it down into bite sized tasks that you can work on daily

==> Create a list of necessary actions to achieve the goal

==> Determine the obstacles that could prevent you from attaining the desired outcome, figure out how to eliminate it.

==> Get started. Imbed a task on your daily to do list that moves you a step closer to achieving your goal.

“If I'm Going To Bet On Anybody, I'm Going To Bet On Myself”

Desmond retired from the NFL to become an entrepreneur. He could have taken any path of least resistance because becoming an entrepreneur is no small feat. It's a cycle of highs and lows. It could be feast to famine in the blink of an eye.

He chose entrepreneurship because he wanted to have control over his destiny and earning power. He wanted build something that he could say was his.

Desmond felt his experience in the NFL prepared him for the entrepreneurship journey. It impressed upon him the importance of building relationships, continuous improvement, developing processes and adding value whether on the field or in business.

The best way to summarize this podcast is to say…everything you are is because of you. You can create your desired future by changing your thoughts, behaviors and daily habits.

Commit to continuous learning so that when the opportunity to 10X your life presents itself, you are prepared to take on the challenge.

It is all on YOU and only YOU have complete control of YOUR destiny.
